What Is Love?
TOOLS: ADOBE PREMIERE PRO
PROJECT OVERVIEW
What is love? Do people in different areas of life have different definitions of love? I interviewed Boston University students who are currently not in a relationship, have never been in a relationship, in a relationship, or in long-term/long-distance relationships, and asked three questions about love to see find similarities and differences in their answers.
The initial step involved gathering a wide range of stories. I interviewed nine Boston University students, each in different relationship statuses, and asked them three questions:
What is love?
How do you express love?
When do you feel loved?
I compiled all their answers into a document and, after thoroughly reviewing them, realized it felt like a continuous conversation. Even those who had never dated shared similar views with those in long-term relationships. This inspired me to create a video that portrayed these strangers engaging in an ongoing dialogue, responding to and even disagreeing with each other.
I pieced together the interview responses like writing a conversation between characters and created a revised transcript. I then edited the video to match the speakers with their statements. The result was fascinating, showcasing how these three questions united people at different stages of love.
